DO you remember Boogie Nights, the heart-warming musical story of bad boy Roddy O’Neil, set in a provincial British town at the height of the disco Seventies, the decade that fashion forgot?

The musical became such a hit that it ran for five tours after its initial London success. Now, a remixed concert version is on tour featuring The Osmonds and Bradford pop singer and musical theatre star Gareth Gates, who will be appearing at York Barbican on Sunday at 7.30pm.

Boogie Nights, The 70s Musical In Concert, will combine the original characters with a “hit-fest” of 70 songs from the 70s, plus video images on a giant backdrop to “enhance an amazing array of live music and an all-star cast on the concert stage”.

The Osmonds – Jimmy, Merrill and Jay – will return to Britain as special guests to perform not only such hits as Crazy Horses and Love Me For A Reason, but also pop classics not usually associated with them.

Pop Idol runner-up Gareth will play the heart-throb role of Dean, having previously appeared in York in the villain’s role of Warner in Legally Blonde: The Musical at the Grand Opera House last September.

“I’m really excited about getting back on stage to sing all the hits from this era, as a lot of the tracks are favourites of mine,” he says.

The line-up will be completed by a theatrical first when Shane Richie Junior takes over the role originally created by his father as bad lad Roddy.

Tickets cost £29.50 to £35.50 on 0844 854 2757 or yorkbarbican.co.uk
