JOHNNY Dowd is the latest addition to the 2013 concert diary at The Band Room, Low Mill, Farndale, near Kirkbymoorside.
He will play there on Saturday, September 21, at the invitation of Band Room promoter Nigel Burnham.
“Operating at the Captain Beefheart and Swamp ends of alt.country, Texas-born maverick Johnny Dowd and his incendiary band are part of the Gothic Americana triumvirate that also includes The Handsome Family and Jim White,” said Nigel.
“His predilection for black humour, the absurd and spiky, machine-gun electric guitar have also drawn comparisons with Nick Cave and Tom Waits, but in the final analysis Dowd is a true original who defies categorisation, which we think is a sign of greatness.”
