CITY Screen, York, begins a celebration of the films of Wes Anderson on Monday night in advance of the March release of his new stop-motion extravaganza Isle Of Dogs.

Picturehouse Cinemas and Culture Shock are linking up to present a comprehensive retrospective of the Texan filmmaker, kicking off with Bottle Rocket (15), his 1996 debut starring Owen Wilson in his first movie and brother Luke Wilson.

They play two wacky best friends, Dignan and Anthony, who hatch a 75-year plan, embarking on a hare-brained crime spree that revolves around the mysterious Mr Henry (a magnificently manic James Caan).

Bottle Rocket will be followed by Rushmore (15) on February 12; The Royal Tenenbaums (15), February 19, and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (15), February 26.

The series continues with The Darjeeling Limited (15) on March 5; Fantastic Mr Fox (PG), March 12; Moonrise Kingdom (12A), March 19, and The Grand Budapest Hotel (15), March 26.

Dave Taylor, City Screen's marketing manager, says: "All the screenings will be on Monday nights at 8.45pm and will therefore benefit from our 'Happy Mondays' lower prices. The eight-movie season starts with Anderson's low-budget first gem Bottle Rocket, running through to his artfully funny opus The Grand Budapest Hotel, and includes my favourite, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. Come and revel in our We Love Wes! season."
