CITY Screen, York, will show Michael Curtiz's classic festive film, White Christmas (U), for people with dementia and their families on Monday afternoon.

"The screening is open to all, but specifically for people with dementia and their family, friends and carers, who are welcome to join us for free tea, coffee and mince pies and a chance to socialise for 30 minutes before the film starts at 1.15pm," said marketing manager Dave Taylor.

"On this occasion we will have an extra special treat, as the wonderful York Musical Society will be joining us for Christmas Carols from 12.45pm."

In Curtiz's musical comedy, army buddies Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) continue their friendship after the war, becoming a popular song-and-dance duo. When they travel to a Vermont resort for their winter recreation, they end up trying to revitalise the inn's floundering business.

White Christmas is a treasure trove of Irving Berlin songs, among them Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep, Sisters, Blue Skies and the beloved White Christmas.
