MANIFESTO: Live From The Tate Modern [15] will be screened via satellite at City Screen, York, on November 15 at 6.30pm.

Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett stars in Manifesto's homage to the moving tradition and literary beauty of artistic manifestos that ultimately questions the role of the artist in society today.

Written and directed by Julian Rosefeldt, Manifesto draws on the impassioned writings of Futurists, Dadaists, Fluxus artists, Suprematists, Situationists, Dogma 95 and other artist groups, as well as the musings of individual artists, architects, dancers and filmmakers.

Passing the ideas of Claes Oldenburg, Yvonne Rainer, Kazimir Malevich, André Breton, Sturtevant, Sol LeWitt, Jim Jarmusch and other creators through his lens, Rosefeldt has edited and reassembled 13 collages of artists’ manifestos from more than 50 original texts. "Art requires truth, not sincerity," says the film trailer in capital letters.

Exclusive to cinemas, next Wednesday evening's special event will include a private view of artworks in the Tate Modern’s collection related to the film, introduced by Cate Blanchett, plus live on-stage conversation at the gallery with Rosenfeldt and his editor, Bobby Good.
