THE Art Trier: Kunst York art swap will be completed with a show by German artists at Bar Lane Studios, Bar Lane, York, from Thursday evening.
Initiated by Nathan Chenery in York and Stefan Philipps in Germany through private contacts, the idea of a spontaneous international exchange of art between York and Trier was hatched last summer.
In the first step if this cross-cultural dialogue, six young York artists exhibited at the Kunstverein Trier gallery, Junge Kunst, Trier, in January.
The work by Kirsty Boutle, William Bradley, Nathan Chenery, Tom Hodgson, Thomas Rodgers and Sally Taylor was shown subsequently at Bar Lane Studios from April 19 to 29.
From Thursday’s 6pm to 9pm launch night to July 29, eight artists from Trier will present their artwork at the York gallery in myriad disciplines, including drawing, painting, print, photography and 3D objects. Taking part are Stefan Philipps, Sebastian Bohm; Markus Bydolek; Britta Deutsch; Klaus Maßem; Werner Müller; Bernd Sauerborn; and Claudia Wenzler-Schlicker.
“This project will hopefully spark an on-going exchange of ideas as a basis for the establishment of a fruitful relationship between the two art scenes, with the aim of overcoming common prejudices and barriers between the two nations,” says Nathan.
Gallery opening times are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; Saturday, 10am to 5pm; Sunday, closed.
