THIS panorama depicting the opening of Knavesmire in 1731 is just one of a number which will be on display at a forthcoming exhibition of York landscapes.
The picture, by artist John Haynes, will be displayed at Fairfax House in Castlegate as part of the Views Of York exhibition, along with other panoramas, maps and sketches.
A spokesman for Fairfax House said: “In this major exhibition, over 100 paintings, watercolours and photographs will chart the changing face of York from 1610 to the present day as seen through the eyes of artists including J M W Turner, Thomas Girtin and William Marlow, as well as contemporary artists.
“Works from both public institutions and private lenders have been assembled to capture the essence of York’s atmospheric medieval streets, flowing rivers, formidable walls and panoramic views.”
Views Of York runs from April 1 to August 31. For more details, log on to fairfaxhouse.co.uk
