WORK is under way on the York part of 2012’s Art Trier: Kunst York cultural exchange.

The initial exhibition in Trier, Germany, closes tomorrow, having featured artwork from York by Nathan Chenery, Kirsty Boutle, William Bradley, Tom Hodgson, Tom Rodgers and Sally Taylor.

“There was a great audience that turned up when I attended the opening weekend in January, including one of Trier’s mayors and the local press,” says Nathan.

“The work was met with very positive feedback and ten out of 21 pieces of art sold on the night, and due to the success of the York Artists in Trier, we’ll be showing their work again here in York next month, although exact details are yet to be confirmed.”

This will be followed in June or July by a “very strong group” of artists from Trier exhibiting in York.

“I think this is a really exciting programme and I’m already considering similar exchanges,” says Nathan. “It’s great to have an exchange of ideas and styles and to start conversations between both sets of artists and indeed collectors in each city.

“It’s especially interesting as Trier is similar to York in many ways: it’s a cathedral city with a lot of history and even shared Constantine the Great with York during his reign.”

Should you be in Trier this weekend, the exhibition can be seen at Kunstverein Trier, Galerie Junge Kunst.
