Fabric, threads and paintings will be on show in a York gallery in a celebration and appreciation of colour. Work by Sandra Middleton, Carol Coleman and Nadine Saupe can be seen at Grays Court from tomorrow until February 3.

Sandra Middleton left a career in finance to develop her creative side and favours a “fractured colour” method. Working with fabrics, Sandra dyes silks and silk/viscose velvets. She then bonds, layers, cuts and realigns them to create a woven effect.

Carol Coleman is a textile artist who specialises in free-machine embroidery, often incorporating rocks, fossils and minerals directly into her work as well as using them for inspiration.

Nadine Saupe, whose Big Flower is pictured, studied portrait painting at Edinburgh College of Art, but has since been drawn to fabrics and now specialises in mixed media. Her range of quilts and patchwork wall hangings explore geometric shapes and vibrant colour composition.
