KENTMERE House Gallery in York will be open for an additional weekend tomorrow and on Sunday, from 11am to 5pm each day.

This is the result of a collaboration with local publication The Fulford Flyer, which is organising an Over The Bridge weekend, encouraging the residents west of Fulford and Heslington to cross the Millennium Bridge to sample the shops, attractions and parks on the Bishopthorpe Road side.

Brian McCusker, editor of The Fulford Flyer, says: “There are unknown pearls and diamonds on the west of the river and Kentmere House Gallery is one of them. My ambition is to get the people of Fulford over the bridge in droves. We may even make this an annual event and have a ceremony.” Kentmere House Gallery, in Scarcroft Hill, aims to show the best professional artists from Yorkshire, both established and promising newcomers.

Ann Petherick, gallery owner, says: “There are many advantages to a home-based gallery, not least that the art is shown in a normal room rather than a large white space. We are hoping to create a party atmosphere where people can meet their friends.”

The exhibition celebrates the gallery’s 20th anniversary, with 20 of its favourite artists at prices from £200 to £2,000. Thanks to the Arts Council’s ‘Own Art’ scheme, payments can be made over ten months with no interest charges.
