JOHN McNeil’s exhibition at Pocklington Arts Centre is in two parts. On the lower level of the gallery is a retrospective collection of drawings, sketches, watercolours and oil paintings.

On the upper level is more recent work, including his exploration of new techniques and abstraction, with subjects in Italy, Scotland and Yorkshire.

“John trained as an architect and has always enjoyed drawing buildings and landscapes,” says Helen Steele, the arts centre’s visual arts officer. “John’s use of colour, combined with his understanding of architectural form, makes this a very exciting exhibition.”

John McNeil – Paintings runs until Thursday, November 10. Opening hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 10am to 5pm; Friday, 10am to 4pm; Saturday, 10am to 1pm. Admission is free.
