A PAINTER of “arresting figures of women” is opening her doors to art lovers as part of the York Open Studios event.
Sudeshna Chattopadhyay, who moved from India in 2001 to spend six years in Spain and Mexico before settling in York with her family, focuses on women’s issues regarding space, freedom and experiences of maternal ambivalence.
She said: “I see the process of creation as play and I play continuously till I reach a satisfactory stage.” Sudeshna will receive visitors to her studio at the Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate, between 12.30pm and 6pm tomorrow as part of the event during which 54 studios open their doors to visitors between April 16 and 18.
Other artists demonstrating their craft during the weekend include Iain Broadbent, an architectural woodcarver based at Bedern Hall, St Andrewgate and semi-abstract sculptor Peter Donohoe, of Tadcaster Road, Dringhouses.
