SNAINTON artist David Baumforth is exhibiting new sea and landscapes at Pocklington Arts Centre until January 31.

Describing himself as a “painter in awe of the sea”, he derives much of the inspiration for his work from the Yorkshire coastline, painting in the open overlooking the squalls and storms of the North Sea.

A self-taught painter originally from York, he has acquired national recognition, not least from Sister Wendy Beckett, the redoubtable art critic and Carmelite nun, who considered his spiritually energetic paintings to be “very beautiful, pure and strong”.

David will be present at his Sea And Land exhibition on January 12 from 11.30am and 3pm. In addition, his work is on show and for sale at his home gallery and studio at The Corridor Gallery, Low Garth, Pickering Road East, Snainton, where he will hold a Christmas do on December 19 and 20 from 11am to 4pm.

“There’ll be wine and mince pies and the weekend open-house will give people a chance to look at some new work,” he says.
