Only One Question for…Askrigg oil painter and etcher Piers Browne.
How did your free painting demonstration day go last Saturday in York in the grounds of the Museum Gardens, Piers?
“I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed painting outdoors in the gardens, albeit on a drizzling day. Helen from the York council lent me a blue gazebo and I painted a large oil that I am funnily enough rather pleased with.
“It’s of a Ginko tree in its gloriously mustardy leafage in front of the Yorkshire Museum, with the light on in the lamp, so there was a play between light and light, and I was strangely inspired. No Lowry in the way to mudden up the inspiring!”
Piers Browne’s Seascapes 2004-2009 exhibition is on show at the Blake Gallery, Blake Street, York, until December 5. Gallery opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily except Tuesdays and Sundays.
News flash, 30/11/2009
Piers Browne has now finished the painting for display in the Blake Gallery from December 4 for a fortnight. “I am sure many of the hundreds that watched Piers during his Art In The Park day would be interested in seeing the final work,” says gallery owner Michael Hourston.
