THE ever innovative Stone Soup advertising agency in York has come up with a new way of promoting art that really is the business.

“We invite local artists to treat our Walmgate offices as their gallery for six weeks in an art project that we’ve started in association with The ArtSpace in Tower Street,” says creative director Tom Sharp.

Under the Artwork scheme, the artists can use the walls, meeting room and studio space to display their work in whatever way they want, and each exhibition is launched with a party to spread the word.

“As an advertising agency, the mix of clients and partners visiting our offices is broad and it’s our aim to introduce them to the new and exciting work being created in the region,” says Tom. “In return, our creative team is stimulated and challenged by the new aesthetics the artists create around us.”

The latest Artwork beneficiary is fine art graduate Anna Forrest, who completed her York St John University studies earlier this year. She describes herself as a “maker” whose transitory illustrations and installations in her Cardboard Dreams And Time Machines exhibition explore notions of time.

Time runs out for Anna at Stone Soup in mid to late-November, but any artists interested in Artwork should contact tom@stone-soup.co.uk
