York Art Society members Jean Wyatt Gunning and Dave Hodge are pictured with a painting of the former governor of the Merchant Adventurers Guild of York, David Ashton, at the society’s 189th Spring Exhibition.
The painting by Alan Robertson will remain at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, in Piccadilly, after the exhibition run ends on Monday. The medieval hall provides an effective foil to the colourful display of nearly 200 paintings in a variety of media by the society’s members. Most of the works are for sale.
The society has flourished since the 1920s, drawing together enthusiastic amateur and professional artists who meet to share their interests and to promote the practice of the visual arts in York and its surrounding areas.
Exhibition opening hours are 9.15am to 3.30pm, today until Sunday, and 9.15am to 1pm on Monday. Admission is free.
