YORK designers Rebecca Carr and John Hollington Design are to launch the Effects Design Market at the Stained Glass Centre, St Martin-cum-Gregory Church, Micklegate, York on December 2 and 3, perfectly timed for "some serious Christmas shopping".

"Design enthusiasts and conscious consumers will be able to buy great Christmas cards, gifts and treats for the home, direct from the makers," says Rebecca. "Unique cards and beautiful personal gifts, including stationery, homeware and jewellery, will start from a few pounds. Visitors will find fresh items for the home such as lamp shades, lights, tableware, cushions, furniture and hand-built kitchens."

Effects will bring well respected and emerging design labels from the north to a wider audience, with designers having shown previously at such leading shows as Design Junction, London Design Fair, Maison & Object and Clerkenwell Design Week.

The designers and makers taking part will be: Alex de Vol, wood, metal, ceramics; Anna Manfield, wood; Anna-Lisa Smith, textiles, scarves, throws; Dear Prudence Studio, cards, stationery, jewellery; Evie Leach, jewellery; Jane Eastwood Design, textiles, throws; John Green Design, furniture, lampshades, and John Hollington Design, lighting.

Explaining the choice of location, Rebecca says: "The Stained Glass Centre, at the heart of the Micklegate Quarter, is housed in a former church, one of York’s most beautiful ‘lost’ buildings, which has gained a new lease of life in recent years after receiving Heritage Lottery funding."

Effects will open on December 1 with an evening launch party for invited guests, followed by two full days of exhibiting and selling on December 2, 10am to 6pm, and December 3, 10am to 3pm. There is no entry charge; York micro patisserie Shutishuti will be selling refreshments at the event.
