OWL & Monkey, the Heslington Road shop in York that espouses "quiet contentment through utilitarian homeware", is to hold a series of autumn and winter workshops.

"Welcome to our first workshop programme, a series of craft and artistic events designed to offer a relaxed opportunity to slow down and enjoy some simple, creative 'me' time," says Helen Harris, who runs the business with husband Matt.

First up will be a Terrarium Workshop with Salvaged Gardens with plant stylist Ginny Scholey on November 16 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. "Join Ginny, of Salvaged Gardens, to create your own air-plant terrarium," says Helen.

"You can make a botanical scene using a range of natural materials to create a plant-scape inspired by the Victorian gardens of old. Bring along a beautiful glass vessel you love or purchase one from Ginny on the night, with prices starting at £5." The cost is £35 per person, including materials, tea/coffee and cake, but excluding the container.

Rachael King will provide a guide to creating paper-cut Christmas scenes and designs – "the perfect way to start making your own unique cards and decorations," says Helen – on November 19 from 10am to 1pm.

"Use Rachael's templates to learn the basics of paper cutting as she takes you through a beginner's guide to learn simple techniques and tells you how to develop your skills at home to start creating your own designs," says Helen. The £35 cost covers all materials and festive tea/coffee and cake.

Jo Hunter hosts Felted Baubles and Felted Soap Workshops on November 26 with baubles at 10am to 12.30pm, followed by soap from 1.30pm to 4pm.

"Join us for some festive fun as Jo teaches you the secret of using 'needle' and 'wet' felting techniques to create beautiful Christmas baubles and felted soap bars that make lovely guest bars or gifts for the festive season," says Helen. The cost is £35 for each session or £50 for both workshops; the price again covers all materials and festive tea/coffee and cake.

The Christmas Wreaths workshop with Kathrine Armstrong Bisson, from York company Fleur Adamo Florists, takes place on December 6 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

"Kathrine will get you into the festive mood as you create your own wreath to adorn your front door or use as a table centrepiece," says Helen. "Using seasonal greenery for all the scents of Christmas, Kathrine will guide you through designs and techniques so you come away with your own unique creation." The £40 price again takes in materials, tea/coffee and cake.

Rachel Wilkes, from Ducks & Daffodils at Goodness Farm, York, will run the Christmas Willow Wreaths workshop on December 10 from 12 noon to 4pm. "Join Rachel to be inspired by her natural, wildflower style and get in the festive mood as you decorate your own willow wreath with Rachel's dried flowers, seed and seasonal greenery," says Helen. The cost is £40 per person, including materials, tea/coffee and cake.
