STAITHES artist Ian Mitchell's latest exhibition of limited-edition prints of Yorkshire coast landscapes and seascapes, Landscape Lines, is on show in the Stephen Joseph Theatre's corridor gallery in Scarborough until July 23.
“My approach to printmaking combines an interest in landscape, design, logos and symbols," says Ian. "As a reductive artist in pursuit of a minimal outcome, I use a mixture of digital, litho, collage and commercial materials.
“My unique delineation of the landscape is based on a stripped-down reality, referencing early travel posters and drawing on the early 20th century design aesthetic. Working digitally, I strip away the topographical, stylising the landscape to create a logo-type symbol of an actual place.”
The SJT gallery is open Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 6pm except during show times. Entry is free.
