TEN York Crafters are holding their fourth Mainly Rag Rugs exhibition and "running workshop" at York Cemetery Chapel, Cemetery Road, York.

For one morning each week, a group of friends by the name of the Ten York Crafters gathers in each other's homes to make rugs, appliqué and needlepoint hangings; to knit, tat and spin; and to exchange ideas about crafts and every other subject under the sun.

"We've been working together for more than 15 years, exhibiting our crafts every three years, and this event has attracted more people from greater distances as it's become more widely known, " says rag rug designer Louisa Creed.

"Apart from the crafts we make together, our members will bring to the exhibition baskets, prints, paintings and anything else they've made in the past three years."

During the 15-day exhibition, the crafters will show visitors various rug-making techniques, demonstrating and encouraging people of any age to have a go.

"We have stalls selling hessian, hooks, cards and ferns, and most of the exhibition items on display are also for sale, " says Louisa.

"Everybody is welcome. If you already make rag rugs, why not bring your current work and join us for a few hours?"

Mainly Rag Rugs is open daily, 10am to 4pm, until June 10.

Admission is free.
