QUEERNESS Is Forming, York artist Nathan Chenery's exhibition for the York Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender History Month, is to run for an extra week in the Quad South Foyer, York St John University, Lord Mayor's Walk, York, until March 6.

"The show so far has been a big success with 70 people attending opening, a few sales and lots of people seeing the work," says Nathan. "I'm really proud of this body of work and being able to share it with so many people."

The exhibition is open from 9am to 6pm each day and, should you need directions, the Quad South Foyer is in the first entrance to the university off Lord Mayor's Walk if you are approaching from Monk Bar.

"The work featured is a mix from my master degree show last year and five new works and it moves on from last year's Queer Horizons show," says Nathan. "Reflecting on the last LGBT History Month, my MA focused on ‘Queer Art’ and what this could be in a contemporary setting.

"The work uses structures based around the idea of the horizon and borders pushing what can be represented. Through these forms, the work looks at a mix of my views, queer theory and importantly queer art of the last century, with a focus on our shared identity as ‘other’ questioning ideas of assimilation over acceptance."

Nathan is to give an open talk cum lecture on Saturday on Queer Art Now (And Then) from 7pm to 8.30pm in Room PH/011 in The Phoenix Centre, York St John University, as part of the LGBT month with more information available via yorklgbthistory.org.uk.
