As the lights fell, the Wearside poster girl walked out clad in a red spotted dress to rapturous applause. This was to be another night of leaning on an open door with sentences that start with “Eeee”.

Ever present on TV – only outdone by meerkats or a man asking us to “go compare” – Millican is the darling of all panel shows and talkshow sofas where she once left P Diddy and Vince Vaughan aghast . They had never met anyone from South Shields 90210.

Clearly Millican clips her own wings for TV watersheds – but this was her in “live” default setting – swearing through material to make Royston Vasey blush.

Her years of cutting teeth above pubs are evident in her ease of bouncing off the crowd about carveries, eating Twixes in bed and the joys of starting a new tea-towel . She ceaselessly held the crowd distracted only by rogue confetti falling behind her.

In a world where comedians use aggression to win laughs Millican’s gun is always set to stun -disarming, charming and likeable. She is the girl next door who could rip to shreds but chooses to laugh along with self-deprication and banter. She is so much more than an “achievable woman in ASDA” !

Many female comics can make women laugh but few translate to men – but she is just funny and that doesn’t have a gender. Millican’s charm mixes Victoria Wood, Jane Horrocks and even Peter Kay – like a comedic Adele, she appeals to all.
