DESPITE the misleading title, Seamonster is a concept album exploring the singer song-writer’s pain and sadness of not having children.

A subject rarely discussed, yet profoundly felt by some, Seamonster may well find an appreciative niche audience. However, the concept is presented in a very confusing manner, especially as the individual titles seem all too perplexing and random: Free Floating Love and Deep Space Hibernation.

Despite the understandable confusion, there is indeed much to appreciate on this self-financed collection, especially if the audience is prepared to devote time and emotional resources to the project.

Seamonster’s influences are Celtic in origin and bear the hallmark melancholic flavour of all single malt folk troubadours. Traditional style folk, fused with a William Orbit-style electronic ambience, give the collection a cinematic yet claustrophobic feel.

Seamonster is unlikely to receive a mass audience yet offers a canvas to those in a similar predicament to the Glasgow artist.
