AS hundreds of York people face an uncertain future after being made redundant, the city’s MP has visited Future Prospects to see how it is helping them out.
He said he wanted to look at the range of facilities being offered by York’s learning and work advice service to help people update their skills, market themselves to employers and rebuild confidence to re-enter the job market.
He said the role played by such agencies was vital.
Future Prospects’ operations manager Colette Gray said that in the last two months, it had provided support for 79 people, who had received a total of 171 in depth advice sessions, with 23 people gaining employment as a result. She said this last figure was lower than she would normally expect, reflecting some of the challenges of the labour market.
