NEW apprenticeship programmes in plumbing will start at Selby College this semester, thanks to a partnership with a national training company.

JTL, which provides training in building service engineering, will offer Level 2 and 3 courses, which take two or three years to complete respectively, and will be open to students aged between 16 and 24.

Apprentices spend four days each week learning with the employer on the job, with a further day devoted to study and workshop sessions at Selby College.

A college spokesman said: “With the first signs of economic improvement, skilled qualified trades people such as plumbers are expected to be in far greater demand. Young people are recommended to act quickly in registering their interest to be interviewed for one of the available Selby College places on the programme.”
