A MAN arrested on suspicion of murdering York chef Claudia Lawrence has today been released from bail, North Yorkshire Police have said.

The 60-year-old was arrested in May, when police searched a house in Burnholme and another in the north-east of England.

A 46-year-old man arrested separately in July, on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, remains on police bail.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Significant enquiries continue to be made into the circumstances surrounding Claudia’s disappearance in March 2009 and there remains the possibility that further arrests in this case will be made."

Claudia was last seen after leaving work at Goodricke College, part of the University of York, on the afternoon of March 18, 2009. She spoke to her parents by telephone that night but has not been seen or heard from since.

Chief Supt Simon Mason said in March that the cold-case review that began in autumn 2013 was "producing progressive results", and allowed officers to examine information from the original investigation using new methods "as if the incident had just occurred".

He said then: "We believe the very real possibility still exists that this appeal will, even five years later, produce new information that could be of particular significance to the case."
