The village of Runswick Bay is one of the Yorkshire Coast s hidden Gems. Known as one of the prettiest destinations this beautiful Heritage coastal area of the North York Moors National Park boasts many attributes including walks, surfing, fishing, fossil hunting and breath-taking scenery, and has a wonderful sandy beach. Enjoy an afternoon beachcombing searching for shells, fossils and nearer the cliffs, pieces of jet that the area is well known for.

Runswick Bay is beautifully maintained and full of old-world charm. This old fishing village enjoys stunning views across the bay and sweeping sandy beach. Take time to wander through the narrow passages and climb the steps, you can easily imagine what life used to be like in this once busy fishing village. The Village of Runswick Bay boasts 2 excellent pubs serving fantastic food and a further restaurant based on the Cliff Top Hotel. There s a café on the seafront to buy flags, buckets and spades or even a dinghy, together with freshly made sandwiches, toasted teacakes and cups of hot Chocolate!

The Beach itself is a Haven for Holiday makers whether you are rock pooling, fossil searching or just making the most of the sand and the sea. Search for ammonites or even be lucky enough to find something much rarer and bigger! Many species and even new sub species have been discovered in the ancient rock on the local beach and in the cliffs surrounding.

The nearby villages of Hinderwell and Staithes are full of amenities. There s a hairdressers, butchers, cafe, fish and chip shop and a well-stocked local shop all within a couple of miles. Staithes is also the home of the famous explorer Captain Cook and Filming of the popular Children s Programme Old Jack & Salty Dog . Wander through the cobbled streets visiting the shops, pubs and harbour is a must! Staithes can also be walked to along the Cleveland way.
