CITY of York Council and First York should have a special award for how to keep things a secret.

I found out purely by accident that from August 31 they have started running late evening buses to their Park&Ride sites on a Friday evening.

This will continue until December 21, apparently, and on some routes there may even be more late buses during the week too.

This is a great idea, especially for those of us who live in areas of York without any evening buses at present. The only problem is that it seems that nobody is letting passengers know about it.

After I had been told about it, I specifically went looking for information and notices. I saw one notice on a timetable board at Memorial Gardens but nothing anywhere else. There are no notices on the Park&Ride buses themselves and nothing at Rawcliffe Bar Park&Ride site.

This is a perfect way of making sure that running late buses is not a success of course and perhaps I am being cynical but could that be what City of York Council and First York want? Surely not!

I urge all bus users to ask about these late evening services and to use them as much as possible in the hopes that we may get a better bus service every evening, not just on a Friday evening.
