I’M sorry that A P Cox (Letters, September 1) begrudged the two weeks of peace and tranquillity given to the west side of the Groves following the recent emergency sewer works. The traffic flow diverted easily down Lord Mayors Walk past perhaps a dozen houses or Huntington Road. As Mr Spock said in the Wrath of Khan ‘the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few’. With the bypassing of the Groves fewer people are affected by traffic pollution and noise.
On a serious note the failing of the traffic system around York stems from the failure to complete the inner ring road proposed after the Second World War.
