IT seems that City of York councillors are not far from agreeing a plan to deal with traffic around York Railway Station (“Bold new vision for city station unveiled”, June 11).
May I help with one or two suggestions?
1 The proposals for Tea Room Square are fine
2 The proposals for a pelican crossing to the middle of the station are fine
3 Demolish Queen Street Bridge
4 Relocate the car park to the rear of the station for long/short drop off/pickup with a new entrance at the rear. This will free up land to build a bus station/taxi rank with covered walkways into the station
5 Remove all bus stops between station and Queen Streets lights, passengers to use the new bus station instead.
This is an opportunity to give York residents a bus station.
May I suggest that the councillors take a bus ride on the Coastliner to Leeds to see how their bus station operates smoothly.
Please don’t miss this opportunity for a bus station.
