Is your pet ready for Christmas? These days, it’s not just family members that put on their best bib and tucker: dogs, cats and even hamsters are getting in on the act as Christmas-loving owners splash out on outfits their pets can wear and treats they can enjoy on Christmas morning.
We’d love to hear from you if you’ve got pictures of your pets decked out ready for the big day, and if you send in your pictures you could see your pets starring in the pages of the Press and on our website.
William Thompsons, based in Murton, York, has seen specially made Christmas jumpers for dogs flying off the shelves, and has even started to stock special festive treats for guinea pigs and ponies.
Sarah Ivinson, the company’s commercial manager, said the number of people buying special Christmas gifts for the four-legged members of their family had soared in recent years.
The top five pets’ Christmas presents at William Thompsons of York are:
1. Christmas jumpers for dogs - including a Christmas pudding outfit for small dogs.
2. Billy and Margot Luxury Christmas Crackers - for dogs. In stock at Thompsons for the first time this year, the canine crackers appeared on Dragons Den and include venison dog treats, and gluton free biscuits.
3. LED leads - the Vario dog leads from Flexi are lit up with LEDs to help keep the dog and owner visible through the dark nights of winter.
4. Cranberry and pumpkin gnaws - for small animals like rabbits and guinea pics.
5. Likit Selection Boxes for horses and ponies - each with five tasty equine treats.
