A YOUNG entrepreneur has opened a new Indian restaurant in York.
Raj Ahmad, 24, has taken on the former Tandoori Nights Indian restaurant, in Bootham, and reopened it as The Raj.
Raj, a former York College business studies student said he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps as an entrepreneur rather than go to university, and has opened the restaurant with his help.
His father, Hasan Ahmad, owns restaurants and takeaways across Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.
Raj said: “I gained experience working in the restaurants and helping my father out. I liked how he was running things and thought I would like to do that myself one day.”
He said the 70-seater restaurant has been completely refurbished in a contemporary Indian style and will serve traditional Indian food with specials by a top chef from London.
The restaurant will employ about ten staff initially, he said.
