A SUCCULENT celebration took place at York Racecourse to celebrate the tenth anniversary of a local family food business.

Miller Food Service, which employs 45 to 50 people at its premises in Hospital Fields Road and James Street, York, donated £5 for every customer who attended the event to Breast Cancer Awareness.

Suppliers of the business, which delivers to a customer base of 800 public houses, hotels, restaurants, nursing homes, golf clubs, hospitals, schools and universities in the region, offered discounts to customers at the event.

Miller Food Service was bought by Sally and Ted Boulton ten years ago and it has since expanded steadily from £1.6 million turnover to more than £6 million.

Garreth Wilson, sales director, said the business had diversified in the last few years, expanding from frozen food into “ambient” foods, products that can be stored at room temperature.

Gemma Kitchen, purchasing director, said the business aimed to achieve a turnover of more than £10 million, covering the same geographical region, but expanding its food range even further.
