A RAIL firm says first-class journeys on a route between York and London have soared since it made changes to its food and drink service.
East Coast said the introduction of a complimentary service which replaced the old restaurant cars, as well as new timetables and free wi-fi, last May had contributed to a 21 per cent increase in journeys by passengers wanting to travel first-class.
It recorded 1.468 million first-class journeys on the East Coast Main Line between May 22 and February 4, compared with 1.215 million during the same period in 2010/11.
Managing director Karen Boswell said: “Not only are more people voting with their feet and trying us out, they are coming back for more.”
East Coast also said the 28 days between January 8 and February 4 saw it record the most first-class journeys since 1995.
