BEER and pubs sustain more than 92,000 jobs in Yorkshire, according to a new report by Oxford Economics for the British Beer & Pub Association.
The research showed the region, which is home to 105 breweries, had 92,077 jobs dependent on the sector, including 30,000 16 to 24-year-olds, and which pays £1.088 billion per year in wages.
Brewing and pubs are worth £1.521 billion to the regional economy and contribute £1.245 billion in tax revenues.
The British Beer & Pub Association said the figures backed up urgent calls for a freeze in beer duty in next month’s Budget.
Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the association, said: “The Chancellor should recognise the vital economic role the industry plays in providing job opportunities for people of all ages in Yorkshire, but particularly young people, as well as serving local communities. We need a duty freeze in the Budget.”
