GET your slice of the £3 million “green cake” on offer to Yorkshire’s businesses before it’s too late.

Businesses and other organisations which want funding to help develop low carbon projects have until April 28 to apply for their projects to be considered in the first round of assessments.

CO2Sense has £3million to invest in low carbon projects in Yorkshire, including renewable energy, woodfuel and products, services and ideas that will reduce carbon emissions.

Businesses can still apply after the deadline, but could miss out if all the funds are allocated in the first round.

The Low Carbon sector in Yorkshire and Humber had total sales of £2.1 billion in 2007. By 2016 this is estimated to grow to £2.8 billion. CO2Sense, a not-for-profit organisation funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire Forward, helps the region’s environmental sector grow.

Andrew Hartley, operations director at CO2Sense, said: “We’ve had a strong response from organisations applying for investment, but we want to make sure that we’re supporting the widest possible range of projects from across Yorkshire.

CO2 Sense has four programmes:

• Resource efficiency, which helps businesses to use fewer resources and helps businesses in the environmental sector to grow.

• Carbon reduction, which helps the region’s largest businesses to adapt their business plans to a changing environment and to prosper in the low-carbon environment.

• Renewable energy, which helps businesses to find sources of low-carbon energy and helps generators of low-carbon energy to sell their energy.

• Carbon capture and storage, which encourages industry and investors to develop CCS infrastructure in the region.
