THE number of companies crashing in the Yorkshire region show no signs of abating.

More than 595 firms became insolvent in the first three months of 2009 according the latest PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) analysis.

This represents a 14 per cent increase on the previous quarter and a huge 67 per cent increase of the same first three months of 2008.

Nationally 5,483 companies became insolvent in the first three months of 2009, a 14 per cent increase on the previous quarter and a 57 per cent increase on the same quarter of 2008.

Steve Ellis, partner in the business recovery services practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP said: “We can see that businesses in the region are still suffering from the effects of the global recession as more and more of them enter into insolvency with no apparent signs of a slowdown in the near future. “
