HERE, in an artist’s impression, is the commercial haven in Old Malton where amazing dreams come true.

One of these three buildings, work on which has begun, will be the new 6,000sq ft headquarters of Redworth Construction which it plans to occupy early next year on its own £5 million development on the two-acre Manor Park.

It will be the just reward for a construction company which has bucked the recessionary trend – and is still booming.

The firm, which won The Press Large Business Of The Year, 2008, announced today that it had increased its turnover by 25 per cent to hit the £30 million mark, making last year the most successful in its history.

Redworth owes its trend-busting success to making a name for itself building care homes but also has a growing track record within the child care and homes for social housing sectors.

Armed with that niche market, Redworth is involved in construction work all around the country and has a healthy order book for 2009, with some projects not completing until 2010.

Howard Rogers, Redworth’s managing director, paid tribute to his 52 staff. He said: “We are all pulling together and working hard for each other. This gives us confidence as we tackle the challenges ahead.”

Meanwhile, marketing has begun for occupiers of Manor Park, which is two miles away from Redworth’s existing HQ in Welham Road, Norton. In a first phase, three buildings will be built. Ultimately there will be 27,000sq ft of prime office development in five buildings, each with their own car parking and cycle bays. The buildings will be available on leasehold or virtual freehold and can be divided to suit requirements from 1,000sq ft upwards.

Latest Redworth projects are in Penrith, Cambridge, Barnsley, Fleet, Southampton, Reading, Bromley and Liverpool. As a result, Redworth is continuing to expand and is actively recruiting staff this year.

One assessment is that indirectly through sub contracts more than 200 jobs will be created throughout the country. The new HQ will allow the company ultimately to expand its 25 office staff by 15 people.

Mr Rogers said: “We are especially proud to be a Yorkshire company which is winning contracts right across the UK in different sectors. For example, we are also on site on the Isle of Wight”.

Order book

Redworth’s projects include: a £3 million contract to build 29 flats for the elderly in Penrith for Methodist Homes; a £6 million contract to build a 110-bed care home and 12 apartments for Ranc in Cambridge; and a £3.8 million contract to build a specialised residential facility in Barnsley.

At the same time the firm is working on its own £3.5 million care home development at Heckmondwike, in West Yorkshire, and is seeking more sites to develop across the country.

Meanwhile the company has won two new BUPA contracts, one in Southampton to build a 71-bed care home, and one in Church Crookham, near Fleet, in Hampshire, to build a 64-bed care home. The combined value of these contracts is more than £8.2million. Redworth is already building BUPA projects in other locations around the country.

Caring Homes has awarded Redworth a contract to build a 56-bed care home and close-care bungalows in Reading.

Redworth has won a £1million contract to build a day nursery in Bromley for Kids Unlimited and a £2.8 million contract to build a 40-bed care home in Huyton for Meridian Healthcare.

These contracts came hard on the heels of Redworth Construction’s successfully completed projects to build a sixth form centre and an animal care home and sports hall for Norton College, in North Yorkshire, worth a total of £4.2 million.
