LONDON is soon to sample the best of food from God's own county.

Deliciouslyorkshire, the campaigning brand for the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber (RFGYH) which champions food and drink from the region, is attending Borough Market, the high-profile London foodie event, near London Bridge.

At the three day event, from February 28, Londoners will discover new and traditional cheeses from Yorkshire, including Shepherds Purse, Swaledale Cheese Company, Wensleydale Creameries and Ribblesdale.

They will also sample handmade preserves, bottled fruits in liqueur and fruit liqueurs made in small batches using seasonal organic fruit and vegetables; cordials made from a range of traditional hedgerow plant and herbs, along with a Yorkshire spin on biltong, the South African meat snacks made from cured and airdried beef.

During the mini Yorkshire Food Festival, producers will be selling their wares under the Deliciouslyorkshire brand, enabling diners to take a taste of Yorkshire home with them.

Independent research shows that almost two-thirds of consumers now set out to buy more regional produce.

Jonathan Knight, the RFGYH chief executive, said: "Fine dining starts with the best produce. A lot of love, effort and sheer hard work has gone into making these gastronomic goodies and we want to share them with the rest of the country."

The RFGYH works with food and drink businesses, encouraging growth through product, business and workforce development and raising awareness and consumption of produce from the region.
