A FIRM of York architects has hosted an official Chinese trade delegation following success in the Far East.

DWA Architects, which specialises in care home design, hosted a delegation of Chinese Government officials at one of its successful care home projects in the UK.

Organised by the Department of International Trade, it follows extensive work that Osbaldwick-based DWA Architects has undertaken in China over recent years.

The delegation visited the Victoria Care Centre in Park Royal, West London, to highlight the best of care home design in the UK.

Ray Mortimer, from DWA Architects, showed the delegation around. He said: “It was a great opportunity to show them a successful care home that we have delivered in the UK and enhance our links in China.

“It’s a country we are confident of doing more work in, which is very exciting given the massive scale of some of the care villages in China that we have already been involved in.”

Coco Kou, from the Department of International Trade’s Beijing office added: “The visit was informative and the Centre is the first one the delegation has ever visited in the UK.”

In 2013, the York-based architects, along with its Beijing-based partners TLD Design Consulting, won an international masterplan design competition to work on a massive care village in Shunde, Guangdon Province.

This project included accommodation for 750 elderly people, alongside 450 assisted living apartments with phase 1 of the village opening last year.

Working together, the two firms have also just been shortlisted to a design senior care facilities in Foshan, Guangdon Province.

DWA Architects has also worked on other Chinese projects including an 80-bed specialist memory care facility in Shangcai, Henan Province, and a flagship 400 room care home project in Xingcheng City, Liaoning Province.

Over the last 30 years DWA Architects has worked on more than 400 care homes both through out the UK and internationally.
