A MAJOR UK bank has revealed it provided £2 million to fund the new Clocktower Enclosure at York Racecourse.

The 100-year-old enclosure reopened at the start of the season following a £5 million refurbishment.

Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking provided a £2 million loan for the project, which saw the addition of twin canopies to shelter catering and betting facilities on either side of the 100-year-old listed clocktower building. It also has two new toilet blocks, refurbished turnstiles and improved access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Leigh Taylor, regional director for Yorkshire at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “The new enclosure will help York Racecourse to cement its position as a leading global racecourse, and will ultimately work to grow interest in the sport and to safeguard future attendance.

“We’re committed to helping Britain prosper through supporting forward thinking organisations like this.”
