A VOLUNTEER has been crowned a “champion” in recognition of her service to York’s tourism industry.

Ann Deller, chairman of the Association of Voluntary Guides was awarded the Tourism Champion title at last week’s Visit York Tourism Awards.

Taking the crown form last year’s winner Will Zhuang, Mrs Deller was thanked for her 40 years voluntary service with the Association.

Head of Visit York Sally Greenaway said: “Ann is one of those unsung heroes who has been working away behind the scenes for many years to promote everything that is wonderful about York.

“Her passion for the city shines across in everything she does and we’re delighted her contribution has been recognised.”

Mrs Deller worked alongside the city’s very first director of Tourism, John Brown. She has been chairman of the Association numerous times.
