A FLOORING retailer is investing £100,000 in a new store in York – the second one it has opened in the city in less than 12 months.

Later this month, on June 30, Flooring Superstore will open 3,000 square foot premises close to the city’s Monks Cross Shopping Park.

It comes less than a year after the company behind the store, Connection Retail, opened a similar sized store for its Direct Wood Flooring brand in Layerthorpe.

The new store will create one new job, with staff from the Direct Wood Flooring branch providing support.

Dan Foskett, managing director of Connection Retail, said: 2We opened our Direct Wood Flooring store in York in September 2017 and it has been very well received by people in the city.

“This prompted us to look for other sites and we are delighted to announce that Flooring Superstore will open at the end of June.

“As well as wood flooring, people will be able to buy carpets and a wide range of artificial grass, providing a one-stop-shop for all their flooring needs.”

Flooring Superstore will sell a range of flooring, including carpets, vinyl laminate, wood and luxury vinyl tiles. It will also stock – through its Grass Direct brand - 25 different types of artificial grass, reflecting the growing demand for this product.

The York store will be the fifth to open in the UK in the first half of 2018, following on from openings in Newport, Swindon, Edinburgh and Keighley. The company says more openings are planned for the rest of the year in Birmingham, Crewe and Leeds.

Mr Foskett added: “Flooring Superstore started life purely as an online brand in 2012, but its success has meant we have been able to invest in physical stores, with York being the fifth to open this year alone.

“While many flooring retailers are struggling we have been able to expand at a rapid rate whilst ensuring that the prices people pay in our stores is exactly the same as they are online.”

With a current annual turnover of £24 million, but rising to £35 million by 2019, Connection Retail is one of the UK’s fastest growing flooring companies.

Established in 2012 as an online business, and based in Shildon, County Durham it now also has nine ‘bricks and mortar’ stores in Edinburgh, Swindon, Newport, York, Coventry, Thurrock, Bracknell, Gateshead and Havant.
