A NEW president has been appointed to head the York Society of Chartered Accountants.
Alison Smith was elected to the role by local chartered accountants at the Society’s recent AGM that took place at The Pavilion in Fulford.
Talking about her plans for 2018/19, Ms Smith said: “I am looking forward to my year as president of the York society. Most of my working life has been in the charity sector, both as a head of Finance locally in York and now training staff of international charities.
“ I recently spent two years in Uganda volunteering though VSO to build the financial skills of staff in small local groups in rural areas. I hope to be able to offer some support through the society to finance leaders in the charity sector in York, who often work alone as the only qualified accountant in the staff team.
“I would also like to raise awareness and fundraise for a project in the developing world, possibly in Uganda.
“I hope I will meet many members during my year.”
