A YORK stonemason was one of six from across the country to attend an award ceremony in London where received a certificate from the Worshipful Company of Stonemasons.
Paul Hill, who for 18 years has taught stone masonry at York College, was presented the Worshipful Company of Masons’ Master Craftsman Certificate at a special ceremony at The Glaziers’ Hall in London.
Mr Hill, who received the award from the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Charles Bowman, has worked across the world from digging foundations in Africa to carving a coat of arms at the Royal Opera House and helping to repair The Princess Diana memorial.
He said: “Passing on craft skills to future masons is both challenging and rewarding. I’d like to pay tribute to many people who have inspired and supported me along my journey. Receiving the Master Craftsman Certificate is a great honour and one which I could never have realised without their help.”
The Masons’ Company, which nominated Paul for the award, supports students in stonemasonry.
