TEN law firms with offices in York have been ranked in this year's Legal 500, with Langleys and Harrowells appearing most in the annual analysis of the nation's legal sector.

While the report, released yesterday, cited Leeds as the "epicentre of the Yorkshire market and remaining as competitive as ever" it described York as offering a broad selection of firms.

The breakdown of firms in Yorkshire and the Humber saw recommendations for ten York offices, each given a ranking, or tier rating, of between one and six, across a variety of areas of law.

In York, Langley and Harrowells received the highest number of rankings, each gaining eight in total, and with each gaining a tier two ranking as its highest, with Langleys taking the number two spot in Personal Injury: Defendant, and Harrowells in Agriculture and Estates.

Howard and Byrne was the only York law firm to received a tier one ranking, taking the top spot in the Criminal category.

While Lupton Fawcett Dennison Till's York office only received one ranking, earning a tier two spot in Agriculture and Estates, the wider firm, which has offices in Leeds and Sheffield, received a total of 17 mentions.

Andrew Jackson, which has offices in York and Hull received seven rankings, including a tier one place for Transport, while Rollits, which also has offices in York and Hull, received ten tier places.

York law firms Pattinson and Brewer, and Grays each received two rankings, while Pryers and Minster Law claimed one each.

Three others North Yorkshire firms, all based in Harrogate, also received tier one rankings. James Love Legal took the top spot in Intellectual Property, Hempsons won tier one rankings in Health and Clinical Negligence: Defendant, as well as tier four ranking, while McCormickswas granted tier one status in Sport and Media, as well as 13 other rankings.

Elsewhere in Harrogate Raworths received four rankings, while Harrogate Family Law and Stowe Family Law won one each.
