A YORK firm which created a software solution to meet food information regulations in the bakery industry has rebranded its product to meet unexpected demand from across the food sector.

RedBlack Software, based in King Street, originally launched food information compliance system CyBake Fi in September last year, after month than a year undergoing development and consultation with food industry organisations and experts to create the solution before the December 2014 food information regulation (FIR) deadline.

With more than 30 bakeries now using programme as an add-on to RedBlack's bakery management software CyBake, other food operators have approached the firm wanting to adopt the CyBake Fi.

As a result RedBlack had made enhancements taking the programme beyond its original scope, and rebranding it Infood.

The business now counts restaurants, delis, take-aways, food service providers and wholesalers among its customers, and has created a new sales channel to distribute Infood to food operators throughout the UK.

Jane Tyler, managing director of RedBlack Software, said: "Infood is our fastest selling product right now. Its new name reflects the demand that we are seeing across all food sectors.

"A year and a half ago we were given the opportunity to create a solution to a new challenge from the ground up.

"With the help of our customers, we believe that we have created the only solution that can totally take the headache out of not just FIR compliance but food product specification in general."

Infood provides compliant allergen and nutritional information on labels, EpoS tills, till receipts, websites and product specification documents, removing manual data entry by integrating with food operators’ production and invoicing systems.

RedBlack revealed Infood to food operators with a stand at the Farm Shop and Deli Show at the NEC, Birmingham, three weeks ago.

Martin Coyle, sales director of RedBlack, said: "Response was strong from firms of all kinds.

"Food companies are very engaged with food safety and compliance issues right now. And if they find that tackling FIR properly gives them better control over their operations, then their interest grows."

Infood was officially launched as a new brand last week at the 2015 Scottish Bakers Conference and Awards event at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow Hotel.

New Infood distributors include The Food Safety System, Hertfordshire, Scottish Packaging Solutions, Aberdeenshire, Gaining Food Training, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Abbey Labels and Packaging, Belfast.

The EU food information regulations came into force in December, meaning food manufacturers and retailers now have to let consumers know all allergen information in new, clearly defined, labelling and via signs and tills receipts.
