A MEDICAL supplier which moved into new premises less than two years ago has already had to open a new warehouse facility following "phenomenal" growth of the business.

GBUK officially opened its custom-built warehouse, covering a million cubic feet, at its headquarters in North Duffield on Friday.

The new facility neighbours the business's head office at Blackwood Hall business park, which it opened in November 2013.

Since then GBUK, which develops and supplies medical equipment to the NHS, has seen a 36 per cent increase in orders, going from supplying 110,000 products a day to 146,000 a day in less than two years.

The business, which has increased its workforce by nine people over the same period, is now shipping 61 per cent more parcels and 54 per cent more pallets.

Chief executive Mark Thomspon, who announced job numbers would increasing from 55 to 60 by the end of the year, said: "We really did expect our head office would last us for a number of years. It tripled our previous capacity giving us around 30,000sq ft.

"At a board meeting last summer we were looking at our contracts and sales projections, and realised we weren't going to have enough room for our stock.

"GBUK is doing phenomenally well in the UK health care market. We are a highly successful organisation because we hire the right people and develop the right products, with the right level of customer service that delivers the products when our customers expect them."

The expansion will not only allow the company to expand its distribution and manufacturing capabilities, but also its development of export opportunities.

The new warehouse was opened by Selby MP Nigel Adams, who also opened GBUK's head quarters in 2013.

He said: "I’m delighted to open this warehouse for GBUK – a rapidly growing business, brilliant people and a great success story for the region."
