YORKSHIRE health eating company Filmore & Union is expanding into the North East with a £100,000 development at Newcastle Central Station.

The new site, which will open at the end of the month with the creation of 20 new jobs, is the firm's first outside of Yorkshire, and its second train station outlet in addition to its shop at York station.

The new healthy eating café and take-out, which is Filmore & Union's eighth site in total, is part of the £8.7 million transformation of Newcastle Central Station by train operator East Coast and rail infrastructure provider Network Rail.

Filmore & Union has recenlty appointed regional manager Craig Robinson, a former Pret A Manger Regional Operations Manager, to run the Newcastle Station site as well as managing the firm's sites at York Station and Roko Health Club in York.

Filmore & Union’s founder Adele Ashley said: "We’re extremely excited about coming to the North East, it’s a huge step for the business and there’s a real gap in the market for such a niche offering in Newcastle which follows customer demand from our existing Newcastle commuters.

"We’re really pleased that our first site outside of Yorkshire is going to be at Newcastle Central Station – the multi-million pound transformation of the station is absolutely fantastic and will be hugely beneficial for the city.”

Filmore & Union, which opened its first branch in Low Petergate in York in early 2012, was founded by Ms Ashley and executive chef Will Pugh, who previously owned Wellness Clinics locally, and spotted a gap in the market for extremely healthy food that tastes great.

From its head office in Wetherby, the business caters for people with food intolerances and dietary requirements.
