A THIRSK training organisation is to provide free training to unemployed people who want to become bricklayers.

SuperSkills Construction Training is teaming up with JobCentres around Yorkshire to meet a growing demand for skilled construction workers.

Those attending the programme will undergo an intensive eight-week training course, free of charge, and not lose their entitlement to benefits while they are learning their new skills.

They will also receive advice on how to get jobs in construction from people already employed in the sector, as well as a guaranteed job interview when they graduate.

The programme has been developed between SuperSkills and local JobCentres in response to new developments planned for the region, including the planned potash mine on the North York Moors, the Sowerby Gateway development at Thirsk and the general uplift in the construction sector.
